Senior Risk Advisor (Refined Products)

Job Description
A large, prominent, competitive integrated energy company with an existing international physical crude and refined trading business is searching for senior Crude and Refined Products Risk Advisor. During the last few years, this company has been building a U.S. presence in downtown Houston, focusing on an international, physical refined products trading business. The current team in Houston is a tight-knit group of seasoned crude/refined products traders, trading analysts, schedulers, market, valuations, and credit risk senior analysts/managers, and back-office analysts. The global head of refined products trading and global head of risk are part of the team in Houston, and growing the refined products business is a strategic initiative. This position supports its energy commodities trading desk primarily focused on crude oil, refined products, and LPG. Responsibilities include:
- Analyzing and publishing the daily risk management exposure reports including position exposure, market risk, liquidity risk, Value-at-Risk (VaR), and stress testing for the North American and international crude, refined products, and LPG trading desks,
- Ensuring compliance with risk policies and standards,
- Collaborating with commercial teams and other key internal stakeholders, and
- Facilitating process improvement initiatives.
Educational and professional requirements include a bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field; 3+ years’ experience in a market risk, middle-office, or product control role focused on energy trading; strong knowledge of the crude oil, refined products, LPG, natural gas, or power products; superior understanding of commodity risk management for derivatives and its related trading cycle (VaR, Stop Loss, Stress Testing, Position Limits, etc.); advanced technology skills (Excel, ETRM, etc.); and experience with Microsoft Power BI, Python, or R is a plus.
