Job Description

A wholesale power generation company is searching for a Senior Fundamentals Analyst to support its IPP/Power, Renewable Power and LNG businesses. This role develops and manages North American natural gas supply, demand, infrastructure, and price forecasts supporting Risk & Commercial decision-making. It reports to the Head of Fundamentals with extensive interaction with the commercial teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing national and regional supply-demand balances on natural gas,
  • Developing short-term (14-day) and long-term (5-7 years) supply, demand, and price forecasts for Henry Hub and major basis points,
  • Projecting future demand by sector (Power, ResCom, Industrial) by developing in-house models (regressions, weather/HDDs, integration with power models),
  • Projecting future supply by basin/play and understanding drivers of the cost of supply,
  • Projecting major imports/exports (Canada, Mexico, LNG),
  • Building models to forecast capacity constraints and effects on basis pricing,
  • Analyzing short-term YoY tight vs loose, end-of-season storage, and daily S-D balances,
  • Tracking model assumptions including infrastructure projects (new and existing pipelines, LNG facilities), regulatory actions, industry news, and emerging trends, and
  • Identifying emerging trends affecting short-, mid- and long-term supply and demand and prices.


Educational and professional requirements include a bachelor’s degree in a numerate field (Masters/MBA degree is a plus); 3-5+years’ professional experience in natural gas fundamental modeling for the North American markets; an understanding of North American gas supply/demand and infrastructure fundamentals; deep understanding of pipeline infrastructure and basis pricing; experience with Plexos, GPCM, or similar pipeline model; proven ability to build analytical tools; strong modeling/programming skills (SQL Server, Python, VBA or R); and ability to think commercially with strong communication skills.

This position can be located in Houston or can be remote within the United States.
