Job Description
Key responsibilities include:
- Research and model electricity markets to understand congestion drivers (including analyzing generation supply, load demand, grid congestion, outages, and transmission projects) and underlying risks.
- Develop, run, and maintain power flow optimization models.
- Undertake nodal market research and simulation.
- Forecast and analyze nodal market price patterns for daily energy trading and assess longer-term trends.
- Conceive and identify trade strategies that will identify congestion risk and signal trading scenarios for the CRR or FTR auctions.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD (advanced degree preferred) in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus.
- Minimum of 2+ years' experience in a power engineering, power flow, power market analysis, or transmission congestion modeling role at a Hedge Fund, ISO, Independent Power Producer (IPP), Power Trading Firm, Utility, Market Vendor, etc.
- An advanced understanding of the principles of electricity networks.
- Knowledge of Locational Margin Pricing (LMP) in the wholesale power markets.
- Knowledge of Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs) and Congestion Revenue Rights (CRRs).
- Experience with one or more power markets / ISO, including CaISO, ERCOT, MISO, PJM, NEISO, NYISO, SPP, or WECC.
- Experience with industry software such as DAYZER, PowerWorld, PROMOD, UPLAN, PSS®E, etc.
- Technical programming skills in C#, Python, R, and SQL preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic trading environment.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
