Job Description
Key responsibilities:
- Analyzing power / ISO market data and trends to identify and analyze congestion patterns and forecast prices using weather, demand, generation capacity, and transmission constraints.
- Monitoring energy supply and demand across different power markets / ISO regions to identify opportunities for buying and selling energy.
- Identify congestion risk and develop trading strategies.
- Participate in both the mid-term and long-term auctions for multiple ISO regions to mitigate congestion risk.
- Collaborating with other energy traders, analysts, and stakeholders to manage portfolio risks and optimize trading positions.
- Building relationships with internal stakeholders (fundamentals team, asset developers, etc.).
- Participate in market forums and conferences to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in the energy industry.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and internal risk management policies.
Educational and Professional Qualifications:
- Master’s or Phd in a quantitative field such as electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, or computer science.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in a congestion trading or congestion modeling role (in the electricity or power markets) at an energy trading firm, ISO, IPP, utility, or power markets research firm.
- Knowledge of the power markets, transmission systems, and electricity pricing.
- Experience with an industry-standard power modeling software tool (DAYZER, UPLAN, PROMOD, GE MAPS, Aurora, PLEXOS).
- Ability to manage large-scale datasets using Python or R.
- Familiarity with statistical modeling.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
