Gas Basis Trading Analyst

A global energy trading & marketing company is looking for a natural gas basis analyst. The role encompasses undertaking regional gas fundamental research and working closely with the gas traders to assist with trade idea generation and vetting. Key responsibilities include:

  • Modeling and analyzing the regional gas fundamentals (supply & demand Models);
  • Pipeline and regional flow modeling;
  • Developing gas basis forecasts and pricing;
  • Identification of key drivers for regional natural gas markets;
  • Proactively work with traders to identify opportunities and recommend trade strategies.

Professional qualifications and requirements include a bachelor’s degree (Master’s/MBA degree is a plus); 1-5 years' experience in regional/basis supply & demand modeling in the North American gas markets (open on regional market experience); professional experience at a gas trading firm, energy commercial environment or consulting/research firm; strong modeling/programming skills; an in-depth understanding of North American gas supply/demand and infrastructure; robust understanding of E&P energy value chain and economics; proven ability to build analytical tools; and ability to think commercially with strong communication skills.

Consideration will be given to gas scheduling candidates with strong modeling/technology skills who want to transition to gas fundamentals role.
