Job Description

A large natural gas producer in Houston, which continues to build and expand its Commercial Trading/Origination teams for natural gas, LNG, and power, is seeking an experienced Data Engineer. The position is newly created for the Fundamental & Quantitative Analytics team and will design solutions and provide a robust data infrastructure to support commercial operations revenue.

Responsibilities include:
  • Help to establish a Data Engineering function focused on data used for natural gas, LNG, and power trading and marketing/origination
  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines across various integration methods (including Snowflake data sharing, APIs, SFTP transfers, web scraping, and automation tools) that support gas flows, power generation, oil and gas production data, market pricing, weather, and other fundamental data
  • Collaborate and coordinate with key internal stakeholders (Traders, Marketers/Originators, Commercial Analysts, IT, Data Scientists) to understand business requirements and quickly onboard new datasets
  • Develop and maintain robust processes and documentation to ensure data quality and speed

Education and professional requirements include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, MIS, Computer Science, or related field
  • ~2+ years of experience in data engineering with exposure to energy commodities (natural gas, power markets, crude oil, LNG, NGL, or related markets) is required  
  • Experience with natural gas market data sources, pipeline flow data, storage reporting, and basis/location-specific pricing datasets is highly desired. Candidates from adjacent energy markets with strong technical skills will be considered.
  • Hands-on experience with diverse data integration, including Snowflake data sharing, REST APIs, SFTP/FTP, web scraping, and automation scripting
  • Expert-level skills with cloud data platforms (Snowflake preferred), Python/Pandas, SQL, and orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt)
  • Experience with PowerBI, Spotfire, Tableau, or similar market analysis tools
