Job Description
An Energy Marketing & Trading team in New York City is searching for a commercial analyst to join their team. This team oversees power plants (primarily East/NE markets) and is responsible for maximizing the profitability of the assets. The team is actively involved in market analysis, hedging, fuel procurement, dispatch/bidding, asset operations and M&A activities.
Responsibilities include:
- Performing market analysis to determine short- and long-term trading opportunities in the commodity markets (power, RECs, natural gas, oil, coal, etc.)
- Interacting with third-party Energy Managers who are leading the day-to-day commercial strategies for the power plants (bidding, procuring fuel, outage coordination, etc.),
- Researching market trends for hedging purposes,
- Assisting with deal and trade structuring,
- Providing asset valuation support for M&A opportunities,
- Developing power generation hedging strategies across the energy, ancillary and capacity markets,
- Developing risk management and trading strategies,
- Ensuring compliance with strategic objectives and existing risk controls, and
- Analyzing power and gas data using statistical and econometric models.
Educational and professional requirements include a bachelor's degree in Finance or related field; 1-6 years experience in trading, structuring, fundamental analysis, or analytical support in the power or gas industry; strong analytic and modeling skills; proficiency in coding (write/read/edit) and knowledge of trade capture systems.
New graduates with a bachelor's or master’s degree and strong energy markets internships will be considered.
