Job Description
BESS Asset Manager responsibilities:
- Schedule, manage, and maximize the value of the BESS assets in the wholesale power markets.
- Communicate daily with asset owners to discuss market conditions, trading risks, and opportunities for revenue optimization.
- Analyze key market metrics including short-term market prices, supply & demand, and transmission constraints in CaISO and ERCOT.
- Understand the price formation of all potential revenue streams and tariff rules, and apply this knowledge to optimize battery storage assets.
- Optimize the asset using the available algorithms and other market data.
- Override algorithm recommendations when deemed necessary and make trading decisions for the asset (at times).
- Work closely with algorithmic/quantitative developers to incorporate and test key assumptions (market design, regulatory rules and compliance attributes, generation bidding behaviors, and risk limits/controls) into the algorithmic dispatch software.
- Monitor all relevant federal, ISO, and state regulatory issues in CaISO and ERCOT.
- Analyze key financial performance indicators (KPIs) of the project and report to key stakeholders and asset owners.
- Interact with internal accounting and risk groups to set up BESS asset operations and systems (ETRM).
Educational and professional requirements include a bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field; minimum 1+ years of prior experience in short-term power market analytics, power scheduling, risk, real-time power trading, day-ahead power trading, cash power trading, and/or asset trading of thermal or renewable generation; market experience in any ISO/power market (experience in CAISO and/or ERCOT is a plus); strong understanding of electricity market design; high proficiency in Excel; basic skills in Python); and excellent communication skills. BESS experience is desired but not required.
