Mexico FTR Transmission Engineer

Our client, an international energy trading & marketing company, is searching for a Mexico FTR Transmission Engineer to join its FTR/CRR team (trades across all the US ISO markets). The Mexico FTR Transmission Engineer will be responsible for research and key analytics in support of the Mexico trading portfolio. Key responsibilities include running production cost models for Mexico’s new power market, transmission and congestion research, price forecasting, and identifying strategies for the Mexico auctions. The position will take a quantitative approach to building the models and trading tools and will use both data mining and fundamental analysis techniques. It is expected that this role will evolve into a trading/risk-taking opportunity in the near future.


Professional and educational qualifications include a Masters or PhD in electrical engineering (power systems focus) with 3-7 years of related transmission experience; experience at a utility, IPP, power trading firm, power research firm or ISO as a transmission planning engineer or a congestion analyst with an expertise in the market rules of one or more ISOs (PJM or NYISO or ISO-NE or MISO or ERCOT or SPP or CaISO); strong congestion modeling and programming skills; and power flow analysis skills using UPLAN, PowerWorld, Dayzer or PSSE, etc. and Spanish speaking skills to interpret tariffs/market rules and attend Mexico market meetings/industry events, etc.
